Artist Statement
Graphic expression is an excellent mode to demonstrate one’s values. A painting shows the world what the artist relishes most about the visual world and life in general. However, the subject of the painting may but may not necessarily carry the point. For artists, the magic in creating images often lies in the rhapsody we imagine as two colors collide or when a motif in one small area is actually a small reflection of the overall scheme of the work. We often hear someone say, “Well, I know what I like,” and then suppress a knowing smile when a patron selects something completely unlike what he thought might be his favorite “picture.” He might even surprise himself, not realizing the tools of the artist—the elements of art and the principles of design—which were used to satisfy a thirst he hadn’t even realized.
